High-quality tailor John Emary founded the label Aquascutum in 1851. He had invented and patented the innovative technique of shower-proofing wools and was the first to introduce rain-repellent cloth. The name Aquascutum originates from the two latin words “aqua” (water) and “scutum” (shield). Aquascutum’s mission has always been to provide stylish protection from the unpredictable British weather. During the great war of 1914, which was mainly fought in the trenches.
