Alain Gossuin, From Charismatic Model To Successful Designer

Once one of the most renowned male models in the 90’s, Alain Gossuin has become a respected designer over the last five years, having carried out more than 10 collections of his own.

After being one of the 90’s top male models, Alain Gossuin decided to go back to his roots – fashion design – which led him to associate himself with François-Régis Laporte to launch his eponymous brand Gossuin in 2004. Alain is no stranger to the fashion industry. A graduate from prestigious schools such as the “Institut Bissoffsheim” in his native Belgium and the “Ecole de la Chambre syndicale de couture” in Paris, Alain Gossuin has been navigating in the fashion world for 25 years as a star of the catwalks but also as an insider, having worked as an assistant buyer for great Belgian stores. Undeniably, Gossuin knows as no other how to wear and appreciate a garment.

But what really drove Alain to create precious garments for men was, from his point of view, the lack of a masculine approach in men’s fashion. According to him, the approach to men’s wear design is currently nearly 100% ‘female’. His concept is to be accurate, thus to offer garments that are representative of the new generation of men… the 21st century man. Each of his designs is an ode to masculinity.

What is Gossuin style? As an amateur of Bauhaus, Alain aims to combine aesthetics and functionalism. The philosophy behind his designs is to preserve the legacy of the past while adapting to modern times and sensibility. It’s the right mix of classical tailoring and contemporary cuts, paying particular attention to finishing touches, accessories and luxurious but not exuberant fabrics.

Gossuin conveys a look that can be characterized as architectural and edgy, but also ensures the guarantee of great quality, since the label «Made in France» is delicately placed on every piece.

Alain is gifted and understands the needs of men perfectly. A talent that was immediately acknowledged by the fashion industry, selling his first collection to the major New York department store Bergdorf Goodman, followed by the Parisian fashion Mecca Maria Luisa.

After 5 years of existence, Alain has established a relevant brand in the fashion galaxy, with a growing reputation thanks to his prestigious retailer network which includes Le Bon Marché in Paris and Harvey Nichols Hong-Kong.

    Interesting article. Interesting to see the personal development of people, from fashion model showing the exterior to a designer. More of these stories of the people behind the models please :-)
    Personally I like to buy my fashion online f.i. at Heine, quite elegant, stylish and of good quality. Not the best known brands, but I don’t mind too much about that, as long as it is stylish fashion.
